Anti-Muslim Sentiment
Donald Trump, the 45th president of the United States, has been accused of being islamophobic. In 2015, following the San Bernadino shooting, Trump called for "a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States." This was later manifested in an executive order that would prevent people from seven majority Muslim countries from entering the U.S.
Alex Jones, (pictured above) neoconservative radio host and famed conspiracy theorist, sounded off on Islam and responding to reports of terrorism in Sweden in December of 2016. On his radio show, Jones claims “‘[Islam is] just a culture.’ Well then the Nazis are just a culture." Jones equates an entire religion to a murderous, anti-Semitic, political movement. As he continues in his dissent of Islam, Jones claimed: “Islam’s way worse than [Christianity]. And everyone’s supposed to tip toe around it and kiss its big, fat, stinking butt…”
Though Jones’s comments seem infantile, they are widely followed. Jones has over 800,000 followers on Twitter, and his website was visited by 9.9 million Americans in the last month alone. More and More Americans will subscribe to the idea of Islam as a hateful religion unless ridiculous stereotypes and misrepresentations of Muslims are eradicated.
