What is Islamophobia?

Recently, what islamophobia includes and does not include has been debated by scholars across the country. AmericanProgress.org, a progressive policy institute, defines islamophobia as “an exaggerated fear, hatred, and hostility toward Islam and Muslims that is perpetuated by negative stereotypes resulting in bias, discrimination, and the marginalization and exclusion of Muslims from America’s social, political, and civic life." Hatred of Muslims is an incredibly obtuse definition of islamophobia; instead it manifests in multiple avenues in which are evident in every day life.
